Why did God call His people to be Salt and Light?

If one reads through the Bible you will come across a scripture where Jesus Christ calls his followers salt and light. What did Christ mean by this? I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ does not fully understand what this means today in our politically correct world.

I truly believe that Christ wants His people to be able to engage the world we live in many different facets. Not only in reaching out to those who are in need of spiritual salvation, but to meet physical needs as well, which includes helping people to realize their potential. What we have seen over the years is the government stepping in and doing what God intended for the Church to do. The Church through the power of the risen Lord has not only the ability to help people realize and meet physical needs, but bring spiritual life to that person as well.

For it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that a person is changed, because God changes not only the physical element of a person, but the heart as well. Thus, when a believer is able to help present the Light, which is Christ to a person, and they accept Him into their heart which helps to transform not only that person, but all they affect.

For a believer to be Salt, they must be able to take the message that they have received, which is the Light and act on the principles that they have learned. This may be taking a stand against social issues like abortion, or gay marriage and doing what they need to do to help affect change in society.

Can one survive with the other? I believe that the Bible answers that question when it states that "faith without works is dead". If the society at large is to be changed, it will take believers who are willing to be Salt and Light to bring about the changes that are necessary. Are you willing to join this revolution?

God gave us reason to be Thankful

When one thinks about this time of the year we all go from the transition of fall to winter with the passing of Thanksgiving to Christmas. If one truly thinks about this with some deep thought the only reason one has to be truly thankful for is God. After all without Him there is no reason why the universe would even exist. The Bible declares that God exists before the universe came into being and will be there even when it passes away. God is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Beginning the the End.

Thus, when one things about there existance, one must acknowledge God. For it was God who created this planet, who gave us the sky and air we breathe and the plants and flowers and food that we eat and the water to drink. Without God there would be no animals and no green grass to enjoy. No mountains, no seas, no wild buffalo to watch roam.

But think of the awesomeness of the fact that the God who has created all this for us to enjoy, also had the foresight to see that we would fall short. For when Adam and Eve fell in the garden of Eden, tempted by the serpent, they fell into a thing that most Americans do not like to talk about, a word called SIN.

But God saw through this, He already knew before our ancestors fell that we would need someone to come and save us. That is why He sent Jesus Christ into the world to die on a cross, but before there was a cross, there had to be a birth, which is why we celebrate Christmas.

So when I reflect on this time of year I think of what God did for me through Christ. I am truly thankful and I am gratefully. No matter what I am faced with and no matter what happens or occurs, I know one thing, God is with me and will never leave me or forsake me. Do you feel the same way?
